Where the wild things are. Labour in Dumfries take huff, Scotsman back them up.

In lieu of a monkey wearing a red rosette. I feel this Ass says more about Russell Brown and the Labour party than I ever could...

Who would have thought that a comment left on a Caledonian Mercury article would have caused Labour in Dumfries to roar their terrible roars, gnash their terrible teeth and spit their spoilt dummy?

The article in Caledonian Mercury, written by that handsome cove Hamish Macdonell, is about Labour's use of celebrity sell outs supporting their party. You know the type of Labour Party apologist who betrays their hard won celebrity, for a chance to touch the hem of Gordon Brown and Baron Mandelson's robes. Eddie Izzard, is the classic example of one who has no thoughts on Iraq, torture, rendition, poverty, corruption, crime etcetera, but hey, he says Britain isn't broken it's 'brilliant'.

In response to comments on the broken down aspects of Greenock, the home town of Labour supporting thespian Richard Wilson and the place he swapped for London in the 1960's, I responded thus to the previous commentator.

Mark MacLachlan says:
Alibi, a wee drive through Lochside, Lincluden and Sandside to avoid the traffic this morning revealed some ‘Vote Labour’ posters stuck in rather broken down gardens and dirty windows.
There are people in these places who are content to continue in the same walk-to-the-post-office-cash-the-giro-get-weeks-shopping-at-farmfoods-go-home-watch-Jeremy-Kyle-die existence. It’s all too sad.

Innocuous enough and a fairly bog standard description of the existence of many people living in the run down estates that pass for social housing in Labour's Britain.

Therefore I was a tad surprised that so close to the bone was my comment that Dumfresian Labour supporters or even perhaps a journalist with a hard on for non Union supporting bloggers, would pitch this comment to The Scotsman  as a faux snide article.

General Election 2010: SNP blogger on the offensive

Published Date: 05 May 2010
LABOUR claimed to be "deeply offended" by comments written by SNP blogger Mark MacLachlan about voters in Dumfries.
"There are people in these places who are content to continue in the same walk-to-the-post-office-cash-the-giro-get-week's-shopping-at-Farmfoods-go-home-watch-Jeremy-Kyle-die existence. It's all too sad," he said.

Offended anyone? No?

It's a sad day when 24 hours before an election that's about to see the Labour vote decimated and the party consigned to an electoral Siberia, that all they can think about is trying to put the boot into a blogger who made a comment on an article that moved into a discussion about the generations of Scots lost to poverty, which they have done nothing about. It's all too sad.

I dare say, it'll end up in my local paper The Dumfries and Galloway SubStandard....

I know of the areas you mentioned, (my wife is from Dumfries).

You wipe your feet on the way out.

What you said Mark is only what everyone, who is not a one-brain cell Labour supporting numpty, says all the time.

Just like people in religious cults they believe everything their leader says to be true and that the fact that their Eden is a mess is everyone else's fault but their own and their cult party's.

The fact that their Labour party has had to involve itself in the murder of it's own citizens in the London bombings in order to scare them and everyone else into supporting their policies would not even bother them.

Smells of desperation Mark - how dare an outsider criticise a Labour heartland, particularly a blogger with such a high profile.

Your comment?

Spot on, and I grew up there.

I'm ready for my close-up Mr Conan DeLibrarian.

Breaking News. Gordon Broon to put in late night attendance at 'mass rally' of Labour party faithful at Summerhill, Dumfries.

Rumours of appallingly low turnout in traditional postal ballot are unsubstantiated. All appearances that only SNP can keep Tories out appear to be gaining credibility amongst neutral observers...

Ahem, having just read Billy's comment, I hasten to add, I do not support his assertion of fact.

Hi Mark, let Labour take me to court and we will see what is the facts, then again they are aware of my accusations and the courts are not a place they want to go near.

The same goes for their lackey's in the press.

Do you think people locked into that depressive lifestyle actually vote?

The people most likely to vote from ''run down'' social housing (erm why is it run down Mark I thought it had all been transferred to secure investment?) are older people.

They probably will vote Labour, but that's not to perpetuate poverty is it. They are often the ones who are most despairing of what they see around them. And to, well, sneer at it/them isn't the best way to convicne them to stop voting Labour really, is it.

It's truly pathetic to have picked your comment up, I rather doubt the tenants concerned are glued to the Cal Merc, but then perhaps it wasn't the finest comment you ever made.

Hi Obs,

"Do you think people locked into that depressive lifestyle actually vote?"

I'd say the people I saw with Labour posters in their windows and gardens are more likely to vote than not.

"The people most likely to vote from ''run down'' social housing (erm why is it run down Mark I thought it had all been transferred to secure investment?) are older people."

Not sure what you mean by secure investment. These houses are operated by between social housing landlords Irvine Housing and DGHP. There is a wide range of tenants but predominantly in this particular area young families, new to the housing list, as traditionally last in usually gets the least desired or poorest housing.

I'm not sneering, and rather surprised you would think I am. Instead I'm simply making a pretty widely regarded observation on the limited quality of life many people living in poverty suffer from. The fact that for decades the areas I mentioned above are Labour strongholds speaks more about Labours failings than their successes.

Mark great article and sometimes the truth hurts.

For the Scotsman to pick up on this article just shows how anti SNP they are and labeling you as a SNP blogger just illustrates this when clearly your blog has nothing to do with the party.

It is going to get too the point that you cant even comment on a blog without some shit faced journalist tracking you down and disseminating your words on some crap gossip column.

Well no shit faced journalist will ever shut me up just so Labour can have an easy ride!

I'm sure plenty labour politicians would have a handsome reward for the publicity you achieve Mark. What is it they say? Negative publicity is better than no publicity?

There are areas in Scotland exactly like that. I've worked in them. Terribly sad to see in this age when so many are making unbelievable amounts of money.

Rosa, I'm mystified as to why they keep trying to take me on. I suspect my appearance at a hustings last week put their little noses out of joint. Have a good polling day. Leave your vote until some exit polls have been done...
